How to sign up for crew

All athletes must complete and sign the online waiver.  A parent has to sign if you're under 18.  To complete the waiver you will need the Club Code provided by your coach.

Step 1. COMPLETE THE VHSL PHYSICAL FORM

Complete the Virginia High School League physical examination form unless you have a current one on file with the Athletic Department.

Step 2. PICK UP YOUR ELIGIBILITY CARD

Spring Sports Eligibility Cards can be picked up at the TC Williams Athletic Department after school until 4:30 pm during spring season.  You can also get your Eligibility Card at the following times:

To be eligible, you must have:

  • passed five credit subjects in the previous semester combined
  • not have reached your nineteenth birthday on or before August 1 of the current school year
  • submitted a Virginia High School League physical form dated May 1, 2011 or later
  • 2.0 GPA or better for all courses combined in the previous quarter

All athletic deficiencies need to be cleared before a student athlete can join/tryout for an athletic team or activity. Any questions about the Eligibility Card requirements should be directed to the Athletic Department at (703)824-6860.

Step 3. REGISTER AT THE BOATHOUSE

Forms you will have to fill out:

New Rowers: Bring your Eligibility Card. The coaches will be introduced and will give a Boathouse safety clinic. You will fill out lots of forms! Note, this meeting is for all students and their parents who will be new to the TC Williams crew team (even if you have done Summer Crew or Winter Conditioning).

Returning Rowers: Bring the Eligibility Card with you to the Boathouse and be prepared to take an erg quiz. You may not register without the Eligibility Card.

Swim Test Scheduled

In order to go on the water, all rowers must pass the official swim test.  You'll have to demonstrate that you can swim 100 meters (any style) and tread water for 2 minutes. Please bring a towel and swimsuit.  The Chinquapin Rec Center is at 3210 King St., right next to TC Williams.

Note to Parents: The Cost of Crew

Rowing is a varsity sport supported by Alexandria City Public Schools, the time and talents of the coaching staff, and Alexandria Crew Boosters. Crew Boosters, through fundraising, supplies much of the equipment for the team and Boathouse. Crew Boosters also supplies and serves food to the TC Williams Crew Team at away regattas.

Compare TC Crew to other high school crew teams and you will see that in Alexandria fees are not a barrier to students joining the team. Students whose families are not able to afford the cost of a uniform will get the uniform through a "scholarship" paid by Alexandria Crew Boosters. Simply let us know and ACB will cover the cost, no questions asked. Just fill out the order form provided by the coaches, and tell your student's coach you would like a scholarship.

We invite parents and guardians to join Alexandria Crew Boosters. ACB supports the TC Williams Crew Team through its membership fee and fundraisers. Booster membership is not a requirement but we encourage parents to join for two principal reasons. First, through Crew Boosters parents can become more involved with the program and support the student athletes. Boosters received occasional mailings with information on the program and get to know other parents at the regattas and through ACB events. Second, the ACB family membership fee is the foundation for the equipment purchases ACB makes for the team. Even adult rowers in Alexandria join ACB as a way to support scholastic rowing in our town. Parents and friends can join at any time.

We ask that parents to pay the one-time Food and Boosters Fee at the beginning of the season. The fee covers all the food and drink supplied to the rowers at out of town regattas. That includes hot food. If a parent does not pay the fee it means that other parents are covering that child's food costs. In fairness, if you have the ability to pay please do. Note that no rower is denied food at the regattas for lack of money.
