Head of the Charles Results - Oct. 24, 2010
Old Dominion
Boat Club earned automatic entries into the Men's and Women's Junior
Eight events with their 12th (Women's) and 16th (Men's) place finishes
in 2009. Both squads traveled to Boston on Friday morning for a
practice row on the river, before spending most of Saturday walking up
and down the race course, enjoying the atmosphere around the largest
head race in the world. Sunday was all business for both boats, as
they launched with 70-75 other boats in each of their events.
Almost all DC-area boats had a rough day in the Men's event, and
ODBC was not exempt from those results, as they finished in
63rd place
out of 76 competitors. Only two boats from DC finished in the top
half of the regatta, thereby earning an automatic entry into the 2011
edition of the HOCR, with Gonzaga College High School finishing in 21st
place, and TBC finishing in 37th place.
In the Women's race,
ODBC had a solid race, finishing in
23rd place out of 70 crews, and
earning an automatic entry into the 2011 event. They were one of
only three crews from the DC area to earn an automatic entry into next
year's event, with TBC (7th place) and Annapolis Juniors (30th place)
being the other top boats from the region.

On the girls side, ODBC had two 8's in the Junior Eight category, with the "A" boat managing a top 5 finish yet again. The "B" boat was less fortunate as they finished in the bottom 5 of the race, with the regatta being only the second time that they had rowed together in this lineup.rowed together in this lineup.
Both boats will next race at the Occoquan Challenge this upcoming weekend, before training for two weeks in the lead-up to the Head of the Charles regatta. The ODBC boys had one 8, the Junior Eight, and one 4, the Junior Four, entered in Sunday's racing and set a solid and fast tone for the rest of the racing season. With a 7th place finish in the Junior 8 and a 4th place finish in the Junior 4, the squad is ready to keep pushing hard on the water and get faster as the fall racing season gets underway. The Junior 8 will be racing this weekend at the Occoquan Challenge on their way to Boston for the Head of the Charles a couple of weeks later.
