Alexandria Crew Boosters offers a fall youth rowing program for novices
and intermediate rowers. It is open to students grade 8 through 12
from Washington-area high and middle schools. (If you are interested
in a competitive sweep program see the information on ODBC Select Crew.)
Practices are Monday, Wednesday and Friday after school from 4:15
- 6:15, beginning September 14, 2009. The session runs six weeks,
through October 23, 2009. Experienced coaches are in charge
at all times.
If you missed signup on Saturday, September 12, 2009 you may still
be slots available. Come to the Boathouse by 4:15 Monday, Wednesday
or Friday afternoon the week of September 14.
Fall Crew offers sweep rowing programs for novice and intermediate
youth. The novice program is for beginners with no experience,
and is a great way for 8th graders and above to get an introduction
to rowing before the spring competitive season. The intermediate youth
program is for rowers with at least one season's experience, to sharpen
skills and stay in shape.
Rowers will learn to row in 8 and 4 oared shells as well as practice
technique and work on fitness on the ergometers. Some running and
calisthenics may be included. Participants are required to provide
their own transportation, complete a registration form and waiver,
have a current physical on file at their school's athletic department
and pass a swim test including 100m swim (two laps) and 2 minute treading
water.
The cost for the programs is $180 per rower with scholarships available.
We can also accept registrations during the first week of practice.
There's a link to the registration form in the left-hand column.
Print it, fill it out and bring it to the Boathouse.
