Peter Hearding
Pete, a TCW alum and varsity rower, joined the TC coaching
staff in 2002. During his time on the staff, Pete has
coached every boat and competition level - from novices to
freshman to junior varsity to varsity. Additionally, Pete
has coached the Alexandria Community Rowing Men's Sweep Team
since 2006 and he coached the Old Dominion Boat Club (ODBC)
Select Rowing program from 2006 to 2007.
The athletes Pete has coached have, despite his involvement,
been quite successful. Some of his crews' notable results
include Virginia Championships in: the 2005 Freshman 8, the 2007
Third 8, the 2008 Second 8, the 2010 Second 4 and a second place
finish in the First 4. In 2007, his ODBC boat won all
three of the local races they entered – Head of the Potomac,
Occoquan Chase and the Head of the Occoquan, and placed 10th out
of 55 entries against international competition at the
prestigious Head of the Charles regatta in Boston.
These athletes have gone on row at colleges all over the
country, including Yale, Virginia, Trinity, MIT, Columbia,
Washington, and Old Dominion.
Pete is married to TCW alum, current teacher and former girl's
coach Lexye (Street) Hearding; they have one a beautiful
daughter, Reese, and a giant black labrador retriever named
Toby.
When he isn't at the boathouse, Pete can probably be found doing
some combination of the following:
- hanging out with his family
- walking Toby
- drinking coffee
- watching the Redskins or Syracuse sports
- trying to catch up on sleep
