Alexandria
Crew Boosters
TC Williams Crew is made possible through the resources and hard work of a lot of people. School system support is vital to maintaining this great varsity program. But much of the work and funding happens because parents and students make it happen.
Alexandria Crew Boosters (ACB) was organized in 1951 and is the principal mechanism for fundraising that makes possible the purchase of new boats and equipment and some costs associated with team trips to the major regattas.
Boosters are past and present TC parents, crew alumni,
Alexandria Community Rowing club members and Alexandria teachers. Parents are especially crucial to the success of
ACB, which is why all rowers' parents and family members are strongly urged to get involved. Parents of rowers are asked to join ACB by paying $45 (tax-deductible) for a family membership.
Parents are also asked to volunteer for any one of the tasks that make regattas, fundraisers and social events great successes. (Of course everyone has the important job of cheering on the TC Crew rowers as they race down the course!) It's important to note that because TC Crew is a varsity sport supported by the school system in Alexandria--and not a club--there are no expensive fees or mandatory fundraising programs in order for your student to participate. That is not true for many rowing teams in the Washington area. So, when we ask for $45 as your contribution to the program we think it is quite a bargain!
For information on ACB membership ask any of the persons listed as members of the ACB
Board. If you have yet to
join
ACB, please do. We are able to support the team in many ways, including food for the road trips, and your help is needed. You don't have to be a TC
Crew parent to join - just a supporter of Alexandria public school rowing.
TC Crew is a member of the
Virginia Scholastic Rowing
Association, which consists of all the high school crew teams in our region.
VASRA operates our local regattas. We and other school crew organizations are obliged to provide
volunteers as a condition of VASRA membership. Parents participate in selling food, driving the officials' launches, and providing some traffic control at the regatta sites.
Help make things happen! See what you can do to help. For more information call any one of the
ACB Board members or ask a coach.
